Yes, it is a very nice glass, with wide FOV. Leica Microsystems, which deals primarily in microscopy and micro-scale measurement systems, is a subsidiary of Danaher. On a bright day, my astigmatism is minimised when my own retina is stopped down. Now I can use the binocular in daytime without my glasses. These are 6 x 30 magnification, and are also labeled Dienstglas 6 x 30 295591 H/6400. 1930s is an educated guess based on others seen on the internet. Some years ago, Leica still sold eyecups with a little bit of folding rubber, which helped a lot. A very cool old pair of German Binoculars, made by E.

I have another with a serial number 518xxx, whose markings are identical but with no aging of the Canadian balsam. This binocular has a graticule, or reticle, which was probably factory installed as is uncommon, especially in a centre focussing binocular, but would be a useful accessory for shooting and for hiking. Although the logo is "Ernst Leitz, Wetzlar," but there is no marking for "Germany." The view is rather warm as the Canadian Balsam has yellowed with age, something peculiar to binoculars of the early 1950's. On the focussing wheel is a dioptre scale the IPD scale is above the focussing wheel.

Or have I bought a pup? Any views welcome. The one I had, 607349, seems to view slightly better, it seems marginally sharper, and a little better depth, just wondering if there might be a difference in later coatings, but of course it could be a minute collimation issue as well. I wonder if there were design changes between the two productions, or is it normal variance with Leitz? Also the diopter setting line on 548927 is on the ocular tube, but on the other one, it's on the ocular arm. The one I had is later, 607349, with the number on the left plate under the Binuxit logo and Made in Germany on the IPD scale. The one I just got, is 548927, ( right side in photo) with the number under Leitz logo on the right plate, and just Germany on the IPD scale. Optically, except for lacking a wide-angle field of view, this binocular has the best view of any single layer coated 8x in the collection and it also exceeds or equals that of some highly regarded multi-coated ones as well.I just aquired a Leitz Binuxit, in near mint condition. With this Maroctit as well as the collection’s Decimarit and Mardocit the coverings on both objective barrels and prism housings had to be replaced. Nevertheless the sharpness is spectacular. And for many collectors, worst of all, they share a problem common to most pre-1963 Leitz binoculars - their leatherette covering is often extremely brittle and prone to cracking and flaking off. The ocular lenses of the Binuxit have about 4 times the surface of the Zeiss West. The Maroctit/Decimarit/ Mardocit line of binoculars has shortcomings: the binoculars are large, heavy and old-fashioned looking. Although the non-phase coated Trinovids could not optically match the superb Porro I binoculars they replaced, they were remarkably light-weight, compact and a pleasure to hold with a streamlined look that made them one the most ergonomically pleasing binoculars ever made.

Shortly thereafter in 1963 Leitz discontinued the manufacture of all Porro I binoculars with the introduction on their revolutionary Trinovid series of roof prism binoculars.
